Description of the company
UNStudio, founded in 1988 by Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos, is a Dutch architectural design studio specializing in architecture, urban development and infrastructural projects. The name, UNStudio, stands for United Network Studio, referring to the collaborative nature of the practice.
Throughout more than 25 years of international project experience, UNStudio has continually expanded its capabilities through prolonged collaboration with an extended network of international consultants, partners and advisors across the globe. As a network practice, a highly flexible methodological approach has been developed.
With the studio, knowledge platforms provide an open source of shared information. For the Construct-PV project, the Architectural Sustainability Platform (ASP) is involved. The ASP is committed to the inclusive practice of sustainable design within the studio. For each project environmental ambitions, such as economic, social and ecological sustainability, are considered from the initial stages both at a global and local level.
Regarding day lighting quality and PV the following activities are ongoing within the ASP:
- Design competitions with integrated PV (such as the Tour Bioclimatique)
- Research: Form follows energy design manual
- Research: Energy analysis using various software packages.
Role of the company in the Construct-PV project
UNStudio is committed to all WPs as advisor and contributor for the architectural aspects of BiPV. This mainly relates to planning issues (BIM), customizability, building technical requirements and aesthetics.
